Dr. Sarah Dugan, DVM
Dr. Sarah Dugan, DVM, is a third-generation veterinarian from Emporia, KS, who grew up on a 20-acre farm with many dogs, cats and horses.
"I grew up showing horses," she said.
"My favorite horse was Molly - a Golden Palomino. I rode horses every night and showed every weekend of the summer."
She received her DVM degree from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003 & completed a 1-year Large Animal Medicine and Surgery internship at Texas A & M University the next year.
She practiced 2 years in Georgia with large and small animals before moving to Wichita where she focuses on small animal medicine.
She's been at Animal Hospital at Auburn Hills since 2016.
Even though she's from a veterinary family, it wasn't the path she thought she'd take.
"I thought I wanted to be a math teacher," she said.
She worked part-time in high school at her father's veterinary clinic - mostly cleaning kennels - until her senior year when she started as a receptionist.
"I loved interacting with both the clients and their pets. I realized pretty quickly that I wanted to be a veterinarian."
She said she's most passionate about making sure patient visits to the veterinarian are stress-free.
Oftentimes that means peanut butter and Cheez Whiz are on the menu - which makes Dr. Dugan very popular!
She and her Wichita-native husband, Ryan, have two children ages 11 and 10 who keep the family busy with soccer, basketball, softball and gymnastics.
They have the calmest Jack Russell Terrier you'll ever meet, named Annabelle, and "a handful" Chihuahua-Italian Greyhound Mix named Enzo who can jump super high!
Dr. Dugan is past president of the Wichita Veterinary Association, a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), Junior League and is a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
